I have a 06 Cadillac cts the theft lock comes on out the blue and will not turn off. The key will get stuck in the ignition. I can turn the car on and even put it in drive.
Pls help someone. I have an 07 Cadillac - same issue -- theft lock is on, cant turn key to "off" position - stops at accessory -- "service theft system" message comes up along with traction control icon -- makes no sense! Bobby answered 4 years ago. I have an 06 CTS with exactly the same problem. Took it to dealership and they diognosed it as ECM gone and key lock cylinder.
I have replaced the lock cylinder via locksmith, no change. I guess I'll find out if the ECM takes care of everything. Sorry I forgot to update. ECM fixed all the problems and is still working just fine. Jeremy answered 4 years ago.
Bobby Hey did you have to do the key relearn process once you replaced the ECM?? My car is throwing the anti theft crap and eats the key but will still start and run.
Anyhow I was messing to know if I have to do the relearn process please let me know. Halpert answered 4 years ago. Had same problem. Had to do the key relearn. Next step for me is the key identifier ring around the key mounted on the ignition switch. GuruYHRH6 answered 2 years ago. GuruT92QY answered 2 years ago. My son had a second key from the dealer and it took 2 attempts but it worked. Rick answered about a year ago. Zachwatkins93 answered 11 months ago. I had the same problem on my 06 Cadillac CTS 3. I definitely think it is something defective with the Cadillac CTS models made from about because my brother had the same problem on his 04 CTS.
Anyways, my car would not start because of the anti-theft system, and it would not allow me to take the key out. To fix this, the previous owner installed an override button under the ignition by the center console trim.Hello, I'm wondering if someone can assist me in pointing out if I'm doing something wrong or if there is another issue at hand before I move to other measures.
It came programmed. The installation went smoothly. However, when I started the Passkey 3 relearn procedure the only light that illuminated was the engine light. I was under the impression that the security light was supposed to be on. Am I doing something wrong?
When I turn the key obviously it acts as though it wants to start but goes dead.
I know that's due to the key relearn that's needed. I should also state that my key was already inside of the ignition due to it being stuck from my old ECM issue. I also broke off the plastic screw that removes the cover that was supposed to release the key so I can't release the key.
Any help would be greatly appreciated Thanks! Jl answered 3 years ago. Ok, I'm having the same problem.
Did your problem ever get resolved? I also broke the screw to release the key under the steering wheel. Any help would be greatly appreciated. GuruDBKX2 answered 2 years ago. The ECM takes the information from the engine's various sensors and uses that information to calculate and tune engine spark and fuel for maximum power and efficiency.
The ECM plays a crucial role in newer vehicles, where many of the essential functions of the car are controlled by the ECM. When the ECM has any issues, it can cause all sorts of problems with the vehicle, and in some cases even render it undrivable. A bad or failing ECM may produce any of the following 5 symptoms to alert the driver of a potential problem. The Check Engine Light usually illuminates when the computer detects a problem with any of its sensors or circuits.
There are cases, however, where the ECM illuminates a Check Engine Light mistakenly, or when there is no issue present. Have a mechanic scan the computer for trouble codes to diagnose whether the issue is with the ECM, or elsewhere on the vehicle. Erratic engine behavior may also indicate a bad or failing ECM. A faulty computer may cause the vehicle to intermittently stall or misfire. The symptoms might come and go and not appear to have any sort of pattern to their frequency or severity.
Engine performance issues are another symptom of a possible problem with the ECM. If the ECM has any issues, it may throw off the timing and fuel settings of the engine, which can negatively affect performance. A faulty ECM may cause the vehicle to experience a reduction in fuel efficiency, power, acceleration.
If the ECM fails completely, it will leave the vehicle without engine management control, and will not start or run as a result. The engine may still crank, but it will not be able to start without the vital inputs from the computer.
Car-starting problems are not exclusively caused by the ECM, so it's best to get a complete diagnosis by a professional technician to accurately determine the cause.
Bad fuel economy may occur from a failing ECM. A faulty ECM disallows your engine from knowing how much fuel to burn in the combustion process. Typically, the vehicle consumes more fuel than it should in this situation. The ECM plays a vital role in engine performance.Forgot Your Password? It is the central control unit of most vehicles and controls a variety of functions, such as electrical system power distribution, emissions, ignition, and fuel systems. It is a very important, if not the most important component of a modern engine management system, and just the same as any other important electrical component it is powered through a relay.
If the relay fails, or has any issuesit can cause the vehicle to have all sorts of problems, and may even render it undriveable. Usually a problem with the ECM power relay will produce a few symptoms that can alert the driver of a problem that should be serviced. One of the first symptoms of a problem with the ECM power relay is no power when the key is inserted.
If the ECM power relay fails it can cut off power to the entire vehicle. A failed relay will disable the dash lights and warning chimes that normally come on when the key is inserted into the ignition, and will probably be unable to start or turn over the vehicle. Another common symptom of a problem with the ECM power relay is an engine that will not start or turn over.
The fuel and ignition systems, as well as several other engine management functions, of many vehicles are controlled by the ECM. A bad relay may cause the vehicle to crank, but not startor sometimes not even crank at all. A failed ECM power relay can also cause a battery drain or dead battery. If the relay shorts it can leave power on to the computer, even when the vehicle is turned off. This will place a parasitic drain on the battery, which will eventually cause it to go dead.
Without it the entire engine management system will be disabled and the vehicle will not run. For this reason, if you suspect that your ECM power relay may be having an issue, have the vehicle inspected by a professional technician, such as one from YourMechanic, to determine if the relay should be replaced.
